Did you learn Monopoly as a kid? I did. Stacked near Clue, Risk, and Ker-Plunk, I thought Monopoly was about luck. A property game with cards, dice, and all the skill of Chutes and Ladders.

Yes, luck plays a role in Monopoly. But the game is really about three things:

  1. Probability
  2. Making good trades
  3. Developing your property

Probability

Monopoly champions leverage probability. Understand the odds in Monopoly, and you will win more games.

Read on, and I’ll make this easy for you. No, you won’t need to learn statistics, memorize tables, or do lots of math.

Making good trades

To win Monopoly, you must trade property.

When playing Monopoly against your smartphone, there is no “negotiation.” Rather, you offer, accept, or reject trades. The Monopoly program responds by using formulas that simulate human interaction.
